About Us

From a single comment in 2013, and a lot of thought by Steph, came a brilliant idea ... "Let's start a book club for librarians where we can discuss 'all things books' ."

BookTalk is a once-a-term gathering of Hawkes Bay Librarians keen to discuss Childrens & Young Adult books with like minded people.  Most of the time we are sole charge librarians, and the only people we really talk to about our books are our students.  Teachers & other adults just don't always 'get' our need to passionately talk about books - especially books that are not actually aimed at our particular students!

BookTalk gives us the opportunity to discuss what we have been reading, what our students have been reading or suggesting we read, and finding out what our fellow librarians like (& don't like!).  Being able to tap into the knowledge of our colleagues means that we don't necessarily HAVE TO read every single book that comes our way, and yet we are still being able to knowledgeably recommend it to our students & staff.

BookTalk is organised & run by Steph Ellis @ Napier Boys High School with some help from Sandi Faulconbridge @ Taradale Primary and Karen Carswell @ Woodford House.  We meet at various venues in Hawkes Bay, depending on where the mood takes us and where the food and wine is flowing :-)

BookTalk kicked off in March 2014.  We now have a year's worth of book suggestions and reviews under our belt, and we need somewhere other than a piece of paper to keep our ideas accessible.  The views and suggestions from our gatherings are our own thoughts and not intended to offend.
